Description
Zostrix is a highly purified form of topical capsaicin (red chilli pepper) in a cream.
Active Ingredients:
Capsaicin USP 0.025% w/w
Dosage:
Apply a small amount of Zostrix to the affected joint three or four times a day. Zostrix works differently from other pain killers and its’ effect builds up gradually over a period of about four weeks. It is important that you persist with Zostrix for a minimum of four weeks by which time you will notice a significant impact in the blocking of pain. It is possible you may feel a burning sensation when you first apply the cream, this is normal and usually stops with time and regular use.
Warnings:
Avoid contact with the eyes or broken or damaged skin. Do not bandage the joint tightly. If the condition worsens or clears up and then recurs within a few days, discontinue use of this product and consult your Doctor./p>
Purpose:
When Zostrix is applied to joints with ostearthritis it has been proven in rigorous clinical trials to reduce pain by more than half, and also importantly improve joint mobility and movement.
Zostrix works by reducing the amount of a chemical called substance P in the nerves and joints. Substance P is thought to be particularly important in arthritis because it occurs in high concentrations in the lining of joints, as well as in nerve fibers which conduct pain messages.
As Zostrix has virtually no side other effects, and because it is applied topically to the outside of the joint, rather than orally, Zostrix is very unlikely to cause general side effects and does not interact with other medications.
